Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary on Willow Creek**

Their destination was a quiet, unassuming safe haven two hours north, nestled near the timberlands of Willow Creek. Run by a retired nurse named Clara, the shelter offered anonymity and physical safety for women rebuilding their shattered lives. The house was old, built of weathered cedar and surrounded by towering pine trees that rustled gently in the afternoon breeze. Clara greeted them at the porch with warm herbal tea and an unspoken understanding that instantly lowered Grace’s guarded defenses.
Inside, the atmosphere was soft, calm, and surprisingly full of light. Grace was assigned a small room with a window overlooking an apple orchard. Setting Leo on the soft mattress, she collapsed onto the edge of the bed, feeling the physical toll of the day catch up to her body. Sarah sat beside her, gently placing a hand over hers. "You’re safe now, Grace," Sarah said softly. For the first time since Leo’s birth, Grace allowed herself to cry—not out of fear or pain, but out of the sheer relief of having found a temporary harbor.
