Chapter 14 - The Naming of Grace

That summer, the Vance Foundation officially inaugurated its first independent community medical center in Logan Square, directly across from the public school where Elena had taught. The building was bright, open, and constructed with wide timber beams and vast skylights that flooded the treatment floors with natural light.
At the dedication ceremony, there were no champagne fountains or black-tie photographers. The crowd was made up of neighborhood families, nurses, local teachers, and patients whose lives had been pulled back from the brink.
Damian stood at the podium. Behind him sat Maya, holding Clara on her lap. Beside them sat Mateo, looking healthy, vibrant, and wearing a suit he had bought for his upcoming high school graduation.

"My sister Elena Vance believed that human dignity should never be subjected to a credit check," Damian said into the microphone, his voice echoing across the courtyard. "She believed that when society prospers, its first duty is to shelter the vulnerable, not insulate the strong. For a long time, I forgot that lesson. I thought security came from what we hoard. Today, we open the Elena Vance Memorial Center to prove that our only real security lies in what we are willing to share."
The crowd erupted in warm applause. Maya watched Damian step down from the stage. He didn't look at the cameras or the city officials waiting to shake his hand. His eyes found hers, shining with an unburdened clarity that had completely replaced the cold cynicism of the penthouse.
