Chapter 15 - The Vance Legacy

The golden morning sun broke through the storm clouds, casting a warm, brilliant light over the Vance family manor. The broken glass had been swept away, the shattered cabinets cleared, and the scent of cordite replaced by the fresh aroma of blooming jasmine from the private gardens.

Inside the grand dining room, an opulent breakfast table was set with fine bone china, silver teapots, and fresh fruit. Four-year-old Lily sat in a high-backed cushioned chair, a bright ribbon in her hair, happily eating pancakes drizzled with maple syrup.

Beside her sat Marcus, dressed in a clean cashmere sweater. Though pale and bearing faint healing scars along his temples, his eyes were bright and filled with tears of profound joy as he watched his daughter giggle, wiping a dab of syrup from her cheek.

Alexander Vance stood at the head of the long table. He was once again immaculate, wearing a fresh charcoal three-piece suit, his gold pocket watch resting against his vest. In his hand, he held the morning edition of the Financial Times.

The front-page headline read:

KANE ENTERPRISES COLLAPSES FOLLOWING MASSIVE EMBEZZLEMENT SCANDAL. ALEXANDER VANCE RESUMES CONTROL OF VANCE GLOBAL.

Briggs, his arm resting in a clean black tactical sling, entered the dining room and gave a respectful nod. “Sir, the police have officially concluded the search at Platform Nine. No survivors were recovered. Furthermore, Richard has provided a complete written confession regarding the attempted takeover. The federal prosecutor is filing racketeering and treason charges against every associate on the ledger.”

Alexander folded the newspaper calmly and set it beside his porcelain teacup. “Ensure Richard receives the maximum penalty without possibility of parole. Let the world know what happens to those who betray this house.”

“Understood, Mr. Vance.” Briggs bowed his head slightly and stepped out into the foyer, leaving the family in peace.

Lily hopped down from her chair, running over to Alexander with her arms raised high. “Grandpa! Look what Daddy drew for me!”

Alexander bent down, the fearsome tycoon who had destroyed an entire criminal empire vanishing in an instant, replaced by a warm, doting grandfather. He lifted the little girl into his arms, kissing her forehead gently. “It’s beautiful, Lily. More beautiful than anything in this entire house.”

Marcus looked at his father, his voice thick with emotion. “I don't know how you did it, Dad. When the water was rising in that vault... I thought Vance Maritime was finished. I thought we were all finished.”

Alexander looked out the tall arched windows at the vast estate grounds, where the Vance family flag fluttered proudly against the clear blue sky.

“An empire is not built on steel, ships, or bank accounts, Marcus,” Alexander said softly, setting Lily gently back on her feet. “An empire is built on blood. And as long as a single Vance draws breath, no enemy on earth will ever tear down what we built.”

His encrypted phone vibrated on the table. Alexander glanced down at the screen. A new notification appeared from an anonymous international IP address, flashing a single phrase:

“The Kane family was only a subcontractor, Vance. The real council wants its harbor back.”

Alexander’s expression did not change. He calmly picked up his tea, took a slow, measured sip, and let a cold, dangerous smile touch the corners of his lips."
