Chapter 15 - The Golden Horizon

The wedding was held at the small stone chapel overlooking the harbor where Arthur’s grandfather had been baptized. There were no society columnists, no political dignitaries, and no extravagant displays of wealth.
The pews were filled with the people who mattered: the harbor workers, the nurses who had served alongside Clara, the children from the new educational annex, and the loyal house staff.
Lily walked down the aisle as the flower girl, scattering white rose petals on the stone path, her face split by an enormous, radiant smile. Around her neck, suspended from a sturdy gold chain, hung the 1898 gold sovereign, polished until it caught the afternoon sunlight streaming through the stained-glass windows.
Clara walked toward Arthur, her simple lace gown moving gracefully in the ocean breeze blowing through the open church doors. She carried a bouquet of wild sea lavender and white roses.
When she reached the altar, Arthur took both of her hands. His voice was steady, clear, and filled with a peace that reached the furthest corners of the small chapel.
"I, Arthur, take you, Clara, to be my wife. To love you through the storm, to honor you in the calm, and to stand beside you as an equal partner in all things. Everything I have is yours; everything I am belongs with you."
Clara smiled through her tears, her fingers tightening around his. "I, Clara, take you, Arthur, to be my husband. I chose you when you had nothing, and I choose you today with everything you are. Our love was kept alive in the dark, and now we will let it guide our way forward."
The minister pronounced them husband and wife, and as Arthur leaned down to kiss her, the chapel erupted in joyous, unrestrained cheers.
Afterward, as the sun began its descent into the Atlantic, painting the water in deep hues of amber and gold, the three of them walked down to the edge of the rocky shore.
Lily stood between them, holding Arthur’s hand in her left and Clara’s in her right. She looked out at the vast, shining ocean, the gold coin resting warm against her chest.
"Dad?" Lily asked, looking up.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Are we always going to stay together?"
Arthur knelt down between Clara and Lily, wrapping his arms around them both, pulling them close against his chest where his heart beat strong and steady.

"Always, Lily," Arthur said softly, his voice full of an unshakeable promise. "Through every tide, through every wave. We are finally where we belong."
The tide rolled in gently over the pebbles, washing away the footprints of the past, leaving only the clean, unbroken shore ahead.
