Chapter 15 - The Matriarch’s Reign

“Diana...” Arthur breathed, his voice cracking as he looked upon his daughter. For the first time in his life, the legendary crime lord looked small, fragile, and utterly defeated. “You don't understand... the syndicate would have killed us all...”
Diana didn't look at him. She walked over to Lily, dropping to her knees, and wrapped her arms around her daughter. Lily buried her face in Diana’s neck, weeping quietly, her small hands clutching the torn fabric of Diana’s coat.
“You did so well, sweetheart,” Diana whispered, her voice gentle, kissing the girl’s hair. “It’s over now. Mommy is here.”
Diana stood, keeping Lily safely behind her back. She turned to face Alexander Vance, pulling the encrypted data drive from her pocket and dropping it onto the table between the legal documents.
“The ledger is already uploading to Interpol, the federal prosecutor’s office, and every major news network across Europe,” Diana said, her voice completely devoid of emotion. “By morning, every asset the Vance family owns will be frozen. Your bank accounts are dead. Your ships are being impounded at the ports right now.”
Alexander stared at the drive, his chest heaving with shallow breaths. “You destroyed both of our families,” he whispered, his eyes wide with horror. “You ruined everything we spent fifty years building.”
“You destroyed yourselves the moment you touched my daughter,” Diana replied coldly.
Alexander lunged for the revolver lying on the sideboard, but Diana was faster. She seized the silver-headed cane leaning against Arthur’s chair and swept Alexander’s legs from under him with brutal force. Alexander crashed to the floor, clutching his broken ankle, screaming in pain.
Diana turned her gaze to her father. Arthur sat unmoving, staring down at his weathered hands, knowing there was no defense, no negotiation, and no forgiveness left.
“Take your coat, Arthur,” Diana said, her voice cutting like the alpine wind outside. “Take your car. Leave this country. If I ever see your face again, if you ever look in the direction of my daughter, I will finish what Vance started.”
Arthur closed his eyes slowly, nodding once. He rose without looking at her, picked up his heavy coat, and walked out into the blizzard, his footsteps disappearing into the white void.
Diana turned back to Alexander, who lay groaning on the floor. She did not raise a weapon against him. She simply watched as the blue and red flashing lights of Swiss federal law enforcement began to illuminate the snow-covered pine trees outside, their sirens echoing through the mountain pass.
Lily walked up beside her mother, sliding her small hand into Diana’s. Diana looked down, her expression softening into pure warmth, and squeezed the girl’s fingers.
“Where are we going now, Mama?” Lily asked softly.
May you like
Diana looked out past the shattered window, toward the vast, open horizon of the snow-covered mountains, where the first light of dawn was beginning to break through the clouds.
“Wherever we want, my love,” Diana said softly. “Wherever we want.”"
