Chapter 15 - The Rebirth of Vance Manor

The intensive care suite at Saint Jude’s was sealed under twenty-four-hour armed guard. For three grueling days, dialysis machines hummed while the synthetic antidote flushed the remnants of the neurotoxin from Clara’s blood.
On the morning of the fourth day, the pale autumn sunlight spilled across the private room.
Clara’s eyelids slowly parted.
Sitting in the chair beside her bed was Julian, his stubble thick, dark circles bruising his eyes, his suit rumpled. Across his lap lay young Leo, fast asleep, his small hand locked onto Clara’s hospital gown.
Julian noticed her movement instantly. He surged to his feet, catching her hand, pressing his lips against her knuckles. ""Clara...""
""I'm still here,"" she rasped, her voice dry but completely clear.
Julian smiled, tears spilling freely down his cheeks for the first time in six years without shame or restraint. ""The syndicate’s assets were frozen this morning by international authorities. The sniper was intercepted at the border. It's over, Clara. The shadow is gone.""
Clara turned her head, looking out the hospital window. In the distance, Vance Manor stood against the rolling hills, no longer a gilded tomb of grief and deceit, but a home waiting to be reclaimed.
Leo stirred, rubbing his sleepy hazel eyes. He looked at Clara, his face breaking into a radiant, innocent smile. ""Mommy, you're awake.""
Clara pulled the little boy into her arms, Julian wrapping his broad shoulders around them both, sealing their shattered family into an unbreakable circle.
Softly, without tremor or fear, Clara began to hum.
""Sleep beneath the willow shade, where promises are never strayed...

Wake beneath the morning sun, our stolen time is now undone.""
The secret song was no longer a ghost’s lament. It was the anthem of their survival."
