Chapter 13 - Bloodline Reclaimed

Julian moved through the subterranean tunnels with ruthless efficiency. Familiar with every pipe, blind corner, and maintenance duct built by his father decades ago, he outmaneuvered Sterling’s men one by one. Using non-lethal flash charges and pinpoint close-quarters strikes, he incapacitated the rogue guards, disarming them before they could sound a general alarm.

He reached the heavy blast door leading to the deep bunker. The electronic keypad was half-melted by a thermite torch, but the door remained sealed. Standing before the vault door was Senator Sterling himself, dressed in an expensive bespoke suit now rumpled and stained with soot, holding an automatic pistol with shaking hands.

Beside him lay the unconscious body of Dr. Lin, bleeding from a blow to the head.

“Step back, Julian!” Sterling shrieked, aiming the gun at Julian’s chest. “You think you can destroy forty years of my political career for some back-alley whore and her bastard brats?! I built this city! I built your father’s fortune!”

Julian walked forward slowly, lowering his rifle entirely. His eyes were dead black pools of pure disdain. “You didn't build anything, Sterling. You parasitized my family. You sold state secrets, laundered cartel money, and when Elena found out through your shipping manifests, you tried to erase her.”

“She was a secretary!” Sterling screamed. “She was nobody!”

“She is the mother of my children,” Julian said softly.

Sterling pulled the trigger.

Julian anticipated the movement, closing the distance in a fraction of a second. He deflected the barrel upward as the shot blasted into the ceiling concrete. In the same motion, Julian drove his elbow into Sterling’s throat, sweeping his legs out from under him. Sterling hit the floor with a sickening thud, gasping for air as his pistol skittered down the hall.

Julian planted his heavy combat boot squarely on the Senator’s chest, pinning him to the concrete. “Victoria is dead. Your son is in federal chains. And you… you will spend the rest of your miserable life in a maximum-security cell, watching everything you stole turn to ash.”

The vault door behind them hissed open. Clara stepped out into the corridor, holding baby Lily in her arms. When she saw Julian, her eyes filled with tears, but then her gaze dropped to the dying phone clutched in Sterling’s hand, which was flashing an active countdown timer.
