Chapter 11 - Blood and Greed

Julian stood framed in the study doorway, a sleek semi-automatic pistol leveled directly at Christian’s chest. Behind him stood Evelyn, wearing a tailored black coat, her eyes flashing with cold triumphalism.
""Step away from the safe, Clara,"" Evelyn sneered, pulling a small stun device from her purse. ""You really should have taken the train to Mexico when you had the chance. Now you get to die alongside the prince.""
Christian stepped sideways, deliberately blocking Clara with his body. ""This was never about the shipping empire, Julian. It was about Father’s trust fund, wasn't it?""
Julian chuckled bitterly, stepping closer. ""Father always loved you more, Christian. Even when he was dying, he planned to cut me out completely. You thought you could run the empire with integrity? Integrity doesn't pay dividend yields of forty percent.""
""You pushed him,"" Clara shouted from behind Christian. ""I saw the watch! Christian has your broken chronograph!""
Julian sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger. ""A watch means nothing when the suspect is shot dead during a violent burglary. The police will find Clara’s prints on the gun, Christian dead from an unfortunate scuffle, and me arriving just in time to defend my family’s property.""
""You forgot one detail, Julian,"" Christian said calmly, his hand dropping to the desk.
