Chapter 12 - The Broadcast

Christian's hand pressed the emergency broadcast button beneath the desk rim. Instantly, the speaker system roared to life throughout the entire sixty-four-story skyscraper, echoing through every floor, the lobby, and the security dispatch center.

Julian’s face twisted in blind fury. ""You bastard!""

Julian lunged forward, raising the pistol to strike Christian. Clara didn't hesitate; she grabbed a heavy brass paperweight from the desk and hurled it with all her strength. The heavy metal struck Julian's gun hand, knocking the weapon clattering across the hardwood floor.

Christian drove his shoulder straight into Julian's midsection, ignoring the ripping agony in his fractured ribs. The two brothers crashed over the leather sofa, tumbling onto the floor in a brutal tangle of limbs.

Evelyn screamed, lunging for the fallen gun. Clara threw herself forward, tackling Evelyn around the waist. The two women crashed against the bookshelf, knocking down antique volumes as Evelyn clawed violently at Clara's face.

Clara took a sharp blow to the jaw, but she twisted her hips, pinning Evelyn’s wrist against the hardwood until the socialite shrieked in pain, dropping the weapon.

Across the room, Julian managed to pin Christian down, his hands closing around his injured brother's throat, cutting off his air. ""Die, damn you!"" Julian snarled, his eyes bulging with manic rage.

Christian’s vision began to tunnel into blackness. His hands clawed weakly at Julian's iron grip.
