Chapter 10 - Blood Against Blood

""My brother didn't overdose,"" Julian whispered, the realization hitting him like a physical blow. ""Burke poisoned him.""

Jack nodded grimly, wrapping a tourniquet around his arm. ""Burke has been holding your brother hostage for three years to keep Eleanor under his thumb. That’s why your mother bowed to him, Julian. She wasn't protecting the money. She was protecting her remaining son.""

Julian stood up, his tall frame towering in the shadows of the warehouse. The vulnerability that had softened his eyes while holding Lois in the hospital hallway vanished, replaced by an ancient, predatory darkness.

""Where is the upstate facility?"" Julian asked.

""Blackwood Ridge,"" Jack said. ""An old sanatorium converted into an underground surgical lab. It’s fortified like a military bunker. You can't just walk in there with a handgun, Julian. It’s suicide.""

Julian pulled his satellite phone from his pocket and dialed an unlisted international number. ""I'm not walking in with a handgun, Jack. I'm calling in the private security division of Thorne Maritime.""

Within two minutes, the sound of heavy rotor blades cut through the storm clouds above Manhattan. Two unmarked black helicopters descended over the Hudson River, hovering fifty feet above Pier 42.

""Get in,"" Julian ordered Jack, his eyes fixed on the northern horizon. ""Tonight, we burn Blackwood Ridge to ash.""
