Chapter 4 - The Father's Dosing Doubts

Richard sat in his executive home office, the mahogany desk cluttered with financial reports that he couldn't bring himself to read. In the adjacent nursery, the baby slept peacefully, monitored by a nurse hired by Victoria. Yet, Richard’s mind remained trapped by the image of Elena’s tear-stained, desperate face at the edge of the pool. Her words—“I jumped in to save him! I pulled him out!”—echoed in his ears like a persistent ghost. He remembered the fierce, unfeigned terror in her eyes, a stark contrast to Victoria’s rehearsed outrage and immediate demands to have the girl arrested and blacklisted. Rising from his leather chair, Richard quietly walked down the hallway and slipped into the study where the main security monitor interface was located. He typed in his master administrator password, expecting to review the high-definition footage of the pool deck from the previous night. To his shock and growing dread, the specific file corresponding to the time of the incident was missing, marked with an error code indicating a manual override. A cold sweat broke out across Richard’s neck as he realized someone with high-level access had deliberately erased the truth, and the only person with that exact clearance, besides himself, was Victoria.
