Chapter 13 - The Mask Cracks

Marcus Sterling’s polished veneer completely shattered. He glared at the contracts, then at Victoria, whose bowed head and silent tears confirmed everything. The board members, sensing the shift in power, began subtly edging away from the Sterlings, leaving them isolated at the head of the table.
""You think a forged signature and a runaway bride can undo fifty years of our dominion?"" Marcus sneered, his voice dropping low, toxic with malice. ""Christian, your father died a beggar because he thought the law would protect him. You won't live to see the market close.""
""My father died because you cut the brake lines on his car,"" Christian replied, stepping closer, towering over the older man. His voice remained eerily quiet, yet everyone in the room held their breath. ""And unlike him, I do not believe in the law. I believe in consequences.""
Richard suddenly snapped. Realizing his entire life, wealth, and freedom were evaporating, he grabbed an antique silver letter opener from the table and lunged wildly at Elena. ""You ruined everything, you bitch!""
He never reached her. Christian intercepted him mid-stride, catching Richard’s wrist in an iron grip. With a sickening snap, Christian fractured the bone, twisting the weapon out of his hand. Richard collapsed to the floor, screaming in agony, clutching his shattered wrist.
At that exact moment, the double doors were kicked open again. This time, it wasn't mercenaries. It was a dozen federal agents, badges drawn, led by the regional director.
""Marcus Sterling, Richard Sterling,"" the lead agent announced, stepping forward with handcuffs. ""You are under arrest for corporate conspiracy, wire fraud, and attempted murder.""

As the agents hauled Richard and his father away, Richard looked back at Elena, his face twisted in tears and snot, begging, ""Elena, please! Tell them! I loved you!""
Elena didn't blink. ""I don't know you.""
