Chapter 15 - The New Dawn

Three days later, the sun rose over a secluded private clinic in the mountains of Santa Barbara.
The estate in Coronado had been burned to the ground, its assets liquidated, the corrupt accounts purged. The syndicate had splintered, the remaining captains swearing fealty to Hector Salazar under the absolute authority of the Cruz name. Julian Navarro had officially disappeared, his body surrendered to the deep ocean trenches he so dearly loved.
Inside the quiet recovery room, the soft, rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor filled the air. Sofia lay against the propped pillows, her face pale, exhausted, but glowing with an unyielding, serene peace.
In her arms rested a newborn girl, wrapped in a clean white blanket, sleeping peacefully against her chest.
Mateo and Hector stood quietly by the window, watching the morning mist burn off the valley below. Mateo’s arm was neatly bound in a medical cast, his face clean-shaven for the first time in a decade.
""The lawyers have completed the filings,"" Hector said softly, stepping toward the bed. ""The entire estate is secured in her name. No one can touch her. You won, Sofia.""
Sofia looked down at the tiny fingers curled against her thumb. A faint smile touched her lips. ""We survived, Hector. The war is just beginning. But from now on, we set the terms.""
Outside the window, an unmarked black helicopter circled low over the clinic perimeter, banking sharply before establishing a defensive holding pattern.
Hector’s encrypted phone buzzed on the nightstand. He picked it up, glanced at the screen, and his expression hardened.
""What is it?"" Sofia asked, her voice instantly sharp.
Hector showed her the screen. An anonymous encrypted message had bypassed their firewall, originating from a secure terminal in Geneva.

Sofia held her daughter closer, her eyes turning into pure, unyielding steel. ""Let them come."""
