Chapter 11 - The Twin and the Trap

""Aunt Sarah?"" Lily whispered, her voice cracking with exhaustion and confusion.
The woman didn't lower the rifle. ""Sarah died two years ago in a private holding facility, kid. I’m Clara. Your mother’s identical sister—the one who took the fall so your mom could take you and run.""
Clara dropped a rough wool blanket over Mia, who was wheezing softly, her small chest heaving unevenly. Clara reached into a metal crate and pulled out a fresh, unopened pediatric inhaler, tossing it to Lily without a word. Lily quickly administered the medicine to her sister, watching with immense relief as Mia's shallow breathing gradually slowed into stable rhythm.
""Where is Mama?"" Lily demanded, standing up and holding the silver USB drive out like a shield. ""Miller said Mama had this. He told me to come here.""
Clara glanced at the drive, a bitter smile twisting her scarred face. ""Miller didn't make it, did he?""
Lily shook her head, tears threatening to return.
""Your mother didn't leave you because she wanted to, Lily,"" Clara said, her voice dropping into a somber tone. ""She traded herself for your digital footprints to be wiped. She surrendered to Vanguard Media two hours ago at their downtown headquarters. But the bastards double-crossed her. They didn't delete the footage. They launched an entire reality-crime media campaign around you two.""
Clara opened a modified laptop on an oil drum. On the screen was a live dashboard showing real-time location pings. A red tracking dot was pulsing directly over their position.

""They didn't track Miller,"" Clara said coldly, racking the bolt on her weapon. ""Your sweater. The rainbow pouch. Did Arthur give you that pouch yesterday?""
Lily looked down at the pastel pouch across her chest. Beneath the soft fabric, sewn invisibly into the seam, a tiny red LED was blinking steadily.
