Chapter 1 - The Verdict of Salt and Silk

Alexander stood rigid as stone. The panoramic skyline behind him seemed to fade into pitch-black void against the raw horror illuminating his daughter’s battered body. Clara sat shivering on the plush white sofa, clutching her torn bridal lace like a burial shroud. Her face was unrecognizable—split lips dripping scarlet onto the pristine silk upholstery, her porcelain skin blackened by ruthless blows.

""Alexander..."" his wife, Eleanor, gasped through strangled sobs. Her hands shook as she cradled Clara’s wounded shoulder. ""Don't let them find her. Javier’s mother did this. Over the waterfront condo... over money we gave them.""

Alexander didn't flinch, but the veins in his temple pulsed with violent pressure. ""Where is Javier right now?""

Clara lifted her swollen eyes. The girl who had left that morning glowing with fairy-tale dreams was gone; in her place was a broken ghost. ""He was outside the door,"" she whispered, her voice snapping on the memory. ""He stood guard while his mother beat me. He locked me in... he let them do it.""

A lethal silence dropped over the penthouse. Alexander turned toward the window, his reflection ghostly against the glittering metropolis. For thirty years, Alexander Vance had built an empire by calculating risk and crushing competitors with surgical precision. To the city, he was an untouchable titan of industry; to his family, an unbreakable shield. The Robas family had mistaken his polished boardroom demeanor for weakness. They had treated his daughter like leverage, believing her blood would yield real estate and stock concessions.

He took a slow, deliberate breath, steadying the violent tremor in his hands. He reached into his coat, retrieving a silver bespoke lighter and a vintage phone.

""The Robas family is done,"" he murmured into the shadows. He dialed a sequence etched into memory—a direct line to a ghost squad that hadn't seen daylight in twelve years.

Across the room, Clara flinched as the penthouse elevator chime echoed sharply through the hallway, signaling an unexpected arrival on the private floor.
