Chapter 11 - The Harbor Gambit

Thirty minutes later, the rain showed no signs of stopping. Madeline and Javier were forced onto their knees in the center of the penthouse study, their wrists bound with heavy plastic ties. Donald entered carrying a stack of leather-bound folders and three laptops, setting them on Alexander’s grand mahogany desk.
Alexander sat behind the desk, rolling his sleeves up to his forearms. On the wall monitors behind him, live surveillance feeds showed the commercial docks at Port Meridian. Heavy cranes stood motionless under torrential rain.
""As of twelve minutes ago,"" Alexander began, opening the top ledger, ""the maritime coast guard boarded Neptune Seven. Inside container forty-two, they found three tons of undeclared automated weapons registered under Robas Logistics.""
Madeline’s face turned gray. ""You... you planted that.""
""I merely informed the proper authorities of cargo you forgot to declare,"" Alexander replied smoothly. ""By sunrise, every federal agency on the eastern seaboard will issue arrest warrants for treason, weapons trafficking, and corporate racketeering.""
""Dad, look at the offshore balance,"" Clara said, standing beside her father's desk, holding an ice pack against her swollen cheek. She pointed to the laptop display.
Alexander clicked a single key. ""The secondary lien on the waterfront condo—the one you beat my daughter to obtain—was backed by Robas family collateral. Because your shipping license is now revoked, the bank automatically liquidated your secondary holdings. You don't own the condo, Madeline. You don't even own the clothes on your back.""
Javier began to wail, rocking back and forth. ""Mom, tell him! Give him the grandfathered trusts! We can walk away!""
May you like
""There are no trusts left, Javier,"" Madeline hissed, her eyes venomous as she stared at her son in pure disgust. ""He stripped them before we even broke down the doors.""
""Correct,"" Alexander said, leaning forward. ""Which brings us to your final signature.""
