Chapter 6 - Siege on the Eighty-Eighth

Sirens wailed in the distance as three black sedans tore through the rain-slicked city streets, blowing through red lights at ninety miles per hour. In the backseat of the lead vehicle, Alexander sat in rigid focus while Javier whimpered on the floorboards, bound and gagged with zip-ties.
Alexander held his phone to his ear. The line rang twice before Eleanor’s frantic voice cut through static: ""Alexander! They’re inside the lobby! They cut the main power grid—""
Gunfire erupted across the call, followed by the sound of shattering tempered glass.
""Eleanor! Get Clara into the panic vault behind the library! Do not open it for anyone but me!"" Alexander shouted, his voice finally losing its cold restraint to pure adrenaline.
""They brought heavy weapons, Alexander... Donald's men are holding the fire stairs, but—"" The line went dead with a burst of deafening white noise.
""Driver, faster!"" Alexander roared.
The sedan drifted violently around the final corner, tires screeching against wet asphalt as the Vance Tower came into view. Outside the grand entrance, two armored vans were parked sideways, blocking the main glass pavilion. Several private security guards wearing tactical vests were pinned behind concrete pillars, exchanging fire with masked mercenaries.
Alexander pushed the car door open before the vehicle had fully stopped. Drawing a custom black semi-automatic from beneath his coat, he stepped into the crossfire without hesitating.

""Donald! Flank the eastern lobby entrance!"" Alexander ordered as bullets chipped concrete around him. ""Clear the elevators! No survivors on the ground floor!""
Alexander moved with terrifying efficiency. A masked gunman stepped around a bronze lobby fountain; Alexander fired three consecutive shots, dropping the assailant instantly before sprinting toward the private service elevator, his eyes fixed on the floor indicator that showed the penthouse level occupied.
