Chapter 14 - The Final Boardroom

Stepping through the doorway, framed by five armed mercenaries, was Alexander Cross. His left arm was held tightly in a sling beneath his coat, his face pale and clammy from blood loss, but his eyes were burning with desperate fury.
"You always were predictable, Victor," Cross sneered, stepping into the room as his men raised their assault rifles. "You think you're the first CEO to remember the maintenance shafts? I had motion sensors installed on those elevators three months ago."
Victor stood tall in front of Marcus and Julian, refusing to flinch. Clara stepped slightly to the side, her pistol drawn and aimed squarely at Cross’s chest.
"Put the gun down, Agent Vance," Cross chuckled, a dry, raspy sound. "My men will turn this child into swiss cheese before your bullet leaves the barrel."
Victor raised his hand slightly, signaling Clara to hold. "It’s over, Cross. The ledger is already queued for broadcast to every major news outlet and the federal prosecutor’s office. You kill us, the servers upload it automatically."
Cross smiled coldly. "Then I die a criminal. But you die right now, and Julian dies with you. A dead child can't inherit an empire."
Cross raised his right hand, giving the execution order: "Kill them."

Before the mercenaries could pull their triggers, the glass conference room wall behind them exploded inward in a hail of stun grenades and flashbangs. A team of FBI Hostage Rescue operators, rappelling from the roof, smashed through the exterior windows in a blinding symphony of noise and glass.
"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS!"
