Chapter 15 - The Heir's Dawn

The server room erupted into chaos. Cross’s mercenaries barely had time to turn before they were taken down by non-lethal suppression fire and physical takedowns from the federal entry team. Cross attempted to dive for a fallen weapon, but Clara surged forward, driving her combat boot hard into his shattered shoulder, pinning him flat against the floor.

"Alexander Cross, you're under arrest for treason, conspiracy to commit murder, and the assassination of Sarah Sterling," Clara stated coldly, clicking handcuffs tightly around his good wrist.

Victor swept Julian into his arms, burying his face into the boy's neck, shielding him from the sight of the blood and shattered glass. Julian wrapped his arms around his father's neck, safe, breathing steadily.

Marcus pulled the flash drives from the server rack and handed them directly to the tactical commander who stepped into the room, flashing a Department of Justice gold badge. "Full decryption verified, Commander. The syndicate's entire logistical network is exposed."

Victor looked at Clara as she stood up from the subdued executive. "You had this planned from the moment we hit the safe house?"

Clara offered a faint, tired smile, wiping soot from her forehead. "I told you, Mr. Sterling. Sarah made sure Julian would be protected by people who finish the job. My mandate was to expose the network, but my personal promise to your wife was to ensure Julian grew up with a father."

As the sun began to rise over the Manhattan skyline, its early golden rays broke through the shattered windows of the 40th floor, scattering light across the marble and steel. The Sterling empire was wounded, but the poison had finally been purged.

Victor carried Julian out through the shattered executive suite toward the elevators, ready to face the world not as an empire’s master, but as a father who had fought through hell to bring his son home.
