Chapter 2 - Gates of Intrusion

The iron gates groaned in the distance, their motorized gears echoing through the estate's sprawling courtyard. Security protocol mandated that no gate opened without Victor’s biometric authorization or a direct override from the central security suite.
"Julian," Clara murmured gently, kneeling down to press the boy behind her. "Close your eyes, sweetheart." The boy buried his face into the folds of her apron, his small shoulders trembling.
Victor turned toward the towering mahogany double doors. His hand slid instinctively beneath his jacket toward his holster, finding empty air. In his own sanctuary, he had grown complacent, leaving his weapon locked inside the study vault. He wheeled on Helena. "Your contact. Did you give them the master bypass?"
Helena backed toward the marble staircase, her heels slipping slightly on the slick stone. "I don't know what you're talking about! I swear, Victor, they told me they were only going to relocate him... they swore no blood would be spilled!"
"Relocate?" Victor’s roar shattered the elegance of the room. "He is my son!"
The heavy oak front doors swung inward without a knock. Three men in tactical gear stepped across the threshold, their weapons held at low ready. Their faces were concealed behind ballistic masks, but the emblem embroidered on their tactical vests bore the very mark Victor had recognized on the caller screen: a silver viper curled around a broken anchor. The lead operative raised an MP5, aiming directly at Clara and the child.

"Step aside, miss," the operative said in a thick Eastern European drawl. "The boy comes with us, or the entire house burns."
Before Victor could lunge forward, Clara did something no maid should have known how to do. She reached beneath her blue ruffled skirt, withdrawing a suppressed ceramic pistol concealed against her thigh, and fired two precise shots into the lead operator's chest before anyone could blink.
