Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Circle

Ellie took a deep, clear breath—a breath untainted by pain or fear—and stepped forward onto the polished white marble. With deliberate, joyful care, she scattered a trail of bright red rose petals across the stone floor, leading directly to where Julian stood.
Clara walked down that fragrant path, her eyes fixed entirely on Julian. There were no hundreds of guests watching, no flashing cameras, no grand orchestra playing an elaborate march. There was only the quiet truth of two souls bound by trial and a child whose bravery had forged their destiny.
As Clara reached his side, Julian took her hand. They turned toward Dr. Mercer.
""In the presence of this small, sacred company,"" Mercer spoke, his deep voice filling the magnificent hall, ""we are gathered to unite these two lives. Love is not proven in quiet waters or sunny mornings. Love is proven when the storm breaks, when the breath fails, and when one is willing to lay down everything for another.""
Julian placed a simple, unadorned platinum band onto Clara’s finger. ""With every breath I have, Clara. For all the days I live.""
""With every step, Julian. Through the storm and through the light,"" Clara whispered, placing her ring on his finger.
Dr. Mercer smiled warmly. ""I pronounce you husband and wife.""

Julian drew Clara into his arms and kissed her, the golden light of the afternoon flooding through the glass doors. At their feet, Ellie clapped her small hands with delight, a bright laugh escaping her lips.
Julian pulled back, kneeling down and opening his arm. Clara knelt with him, and together, they pulled the little girl into a warm, protective embrace. The breath that was once stolen had become the foundation of a new family, bound by a love that no storm could ever wash away."
