Chapter 11 - The Sovereign Strike

Eva stood tall, her posture completely upright as she walked slowly to the threshold of the room. She wore no makeup, her hair was pulled into a simple low bun, yet the authority radiating from her made Robert Sterling take an instinctive half-step backward.

""You speak of court orders, Robert?"" Eva said, her voice cutting through the hall with absolute precision. ""Then perhaps you should read the one that was signed an hour ago by the Chief Judge of the Southern District.""

Diane stepped forward, thrusting a red-stamped legal dossier directly into the hands of Sterling’s lawyer.

""Federal freeze order,"" Diane announced brightly. ""Under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The Delaware shell company you set up with Weston has been classified as a criminal enterprise. Every asset tied to Sterling Holdings is currently locked pending an investigation into foreign wire fraud.""

Sterling’s face turned an ugly, mottled red. ""You bluffing little—""

""I don't bluff, Robert. I calculate,"" Eva interrupted. ""Did you really think I didn't know you were using Weston’s consulting invoices to launder offshore payouts from Russian development firms? I’ve held those transaction logs in a cold-storage vault for nine months. I was simply waiting for you to commit overt fraud by funding Weston's bail using those exact frozen funds.""

Sterling snatched the document from his attorney, his hands visibly shaking as he read the federal case number. His high-priced lawyer leaned in and whispered frantically into his ear. Sterling’s arrogant posture collapsed instantly. He didn't say another word; he turned on his heel and walked rapidly toward the elevators, completely abandoning Weston in the corridor.

""Sterling! Wait!"" Weston shouted, his voice cracking with panic. ""You promised me the board seat! You promised me five million once she was locked in psychiatric hold!""

Eva looked down at Weston, who was still pinned against the wall by Vance’s guards. The pathetic desperation on his face reminded her of a cornered stray.

""Psychiatric hold?"" Eva whispered, stepping closer until she was inches from his face. ""You thought you could label me hysterical, steal my company, and claim my child as an asset on your balance sheet?""

""Eva, please,"" Weston begged, his arrogance completely dissolving into pathetic tears. ""My mother manipulated me! She told me you would leave me with nothing! Think of Maya... she needs a father!""

""Maya needs a protector,"" Eva replied coldly. ""Not a parasitic con artist who would sell her inheritance before she took her first breath.""

Eva glanced at the hospital security chief who had just arrived with two armed city police officers.

""Officers,"" Eva said calmly. ""This man is in violation of an active protective order. Remove him from my sight.""

The police clicked handcuffs around Weston’s wrists, wrenching his arms behind his back. As they dragged him toward the service elevator, his frantic screams echoed down the corridor, fading into the sterile hospital hum.

Eva turned back into her room, shutting the door firmly behind her. But as she walked back toward Maya’s bassinet, her phone chimed with a private message from an unknown overseas number.

She unlocked the screen. The text read: You defeated my son, Eva. But the real contract was never with Weston. Look out your window.
