Chapter 1 - The Seal of Betrayal
The antiseptic tang of Room 314 clung to Clara’s throat as she pulled the blanket tighter around baby Maya. Across the tiled floor, Victoria Vance froze, the smug composure on her porcelain-pale face beginning to fracture. Behind Victoria, Nurse Sarah stood rigid, an outstretched arm forming an unyielding barrier between the wealthy matriarch and the bedside.
"Don't mock me, Clara," Victoria said, her manicured fingers curling inward against her burgundy blazer. "Julian is my son. Any child of his belongs to the Vance legacy. You’re hysterical from labor."
"Julian isn't her father," Clara whispered, her trembling index finger pressing onto the heavy cream envelope on the mobile tray. The silver wax imprint—a medical lab insignia—gleamed under the fluorescent tube light. "The results came back two hours ago. Before Julian even turned his phone back on."
Victoria took a slow, calculated breath, trying to regain dominance. "You expect me to believe you cheated on my son? You’re lying to keep her from me because you know the custody battle will ruin you."
"Open it," Clara challenged, her voice dropping to a raw, ragged pitch. "Break the seal yourself."
Victoria brushed past Sarah’s arm with cold disdain. She snatched the envelope, snapping the silver wax with a sharp, dry pop. She pulled out the folded document, her sharp eyes scanning down the clinical tables, hunting for the flaw in Clara’s claim. But as Victoria’s eyes reached the final paragraph, her chest hitched. Her jaw slacked. The paper fluttered in her grasp.
"This is an error," Victoria breathed, looking up not with fury, but with something far more dangerous: pure, unadulterated terror. "The paternal markers... this sample didn't come from Julian."

"It came from him," Clara countered, tears finally spilling over her lashes. "He submitted his swab last week. But Maya isn’t his daughter. And according to the lab... he isn't even your son."
Before Victoria could speak, the room’s heavy door swung violently open, and Julian Vance stepped inside.
