Chapter 15 - The New Dawn

Forty-eight hours later, the afternoon sun cast a warm golden hue over a secluded dock in Nova Scotia. The ocean stretched endlessly to the horizon, calm and shimmering blue, free of smoke and shadows.
Clara sat on the wooden pier, dangling her feet over the water. In her lap, Sarah slept peacefully, free of implants, free of tracking chips, wrapped in a simple yellow wool blanket. The data had been broadcast to international authorities; Victor’s empire had collapsed in an avalanche of federal raids across three continents.
Footsteps echoed softly on the wooden planks behind her. Adrian walked over, wearing an unbuttoned denim shirt and worn jeans, the dark tattoos on his neck visible in the sunlight. He sat down beside Clara, the heavy burden that had hollowed his cheeks for four years finally lifting from his eyes.
He didn't speak. He simply leaned his shoulder against hers, offering the quiet, enduring strength she had remembered from a lifetime ago.
"She looks like you when she sleeps," Clara said softly, resting her head against his arm.
Adrian looked down at the tiny girl, his rough fingers carefully brushing a wisp of light brown hair from her forehead. A faint, genuine smile broke through his scarred features for the first time in years.

As the tide rolled gently against the pilings, Clara reached into her coat pocket, pulled out the faded sonogram from the penthouse, and let it slip from her fingers. The wind caught the paper, carrying it out across the open sea until it vanished into the glittering blue.
