Chapter 1 - The Accusation at the Door

The grand foyer of the Vance estate had never felt colder. Crystal chandeliers shimmered overhead, casting fragmented prisms across the polished marble floor where six-year-old Leo still trembled in the maid Elena’s arms. His small white shirt was scuffed from the fall, his knees bruised, but his dark eyes remained locked on the figure framed by the open double doors.
Marcus Vance stood paralyzed on the threshold. His tailored Italian suit, usually a symbol of unyielding power in the corporate world, suddenly felt like an iron cage suffocating him. He barely noticed his wife, Victoria, rushing down the final steps of the spiral staircase, the shimmering sequins of her champagne dress rustling like a viper in dry grass.
""Marcus, darling, don’t listen to him,"" Victoria said, her voice smooth, perfectly calibrated to feign innocence. ""The boy slipped. He’s always been clumsy. He's making up stories to get attention.""
Leo didn’t look at Victoria. His trembling arm remained extended toward the entrance, his small finger unwavering. Standing directly behind Marcus was a man dressed in a dark chauffeur uniform—a quiet, stone-faced private driver named Julian, who had been on Marcus’s payroll for three months.
""No,"" Leo whispered again, his childish treble cutting through the cavernous room like a razor blade. ""I remember the red jacket he wore under his coat. He was in Mommy's room. He made her fall off the balcony.""
Julian’s eyes flickered, barely a fraction of an inch, toward the security monitor mounted near the foyer archway.
Elena pulled Leo closer, her protective grip tightening around the child. She looked up at Marcus, her gaze silently begging him to see what had been hidden in plain sight for two long years.

Marcus stepped forward, his leather shoes clicking sharply on the stone. He did not turn to face Julian. Instead, he reached inside his jacket, fingers closing around his encrypted smartphone. ""Julian,"" Marcus said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. ""Step inside. And close the doors behind you.""
Julian didn’t move. Instead, his hand slid slowly beneath the lapel of his tailored coat.
