Chapter 15 - The Dawn on Marble

Seventy-two hours later, the rain had cleared from the valley, leaving behind a crisp, crystalline autumn morning.

The grand foyer of the Vance estate had been completely restored. The shattered skylight was replaced with fresh, reinforced glass, letting the golden morning sun pour down through the crystal chandelier, illuminating the pristine white marble staircase where the nightmare had begun.

Marcus stood at the top of the stairs, dressed in a simple dark sweater and trousers, holding a steaming mug of black coffee. His wounds had been dressed, the bandage on his forearm hidden beneath his sleeve, but the true healing was happening somewhere deeper within his chest.

His phone chimed with an encrypted notification from Interpol:

Subject: Vivienne Vance. Extradition approved from Halifax Regional Detention Facility. Arriving under federal escort in Washington at 14:00 hours.

It was finally finished. The shadow that had hung over their lives since Clarissa's death was completely dismantled. The truth was out in the open, recorded, archived, and sealed by the law.

Footsteps echoed softly from the landing below. Elena walked into the foyer, carrying a small backpack, followed closely by Leo. The boy looked up, his face bright, completely devoid of the terror that had consumed him days prior.

""Daddy! Look!"" Leo shouted, holding up a small framed photograph.

Marcus walked down the curved marble stairs, each step firm and deliberate, no longer haunted by the ghost of Clarissa’s fall. He knelt beside his son, looking at the picture Leo held proudly.

It was an old, candid photo taken three years ago in the garden behind the estate. Clarissa was sitting on the grass, laughing, while Marcus held a toddler-aged Leo on his shoulders under the blooming cherry trees.

""Elena found it in Mommy’s jewelry box,"" Leo said softly, his hazel eyes wide and calm. ""Can we put it in my room?""

Marcus reached out, his hand gently cupping the back of Leo’s neck, pulling him into a warm, silent embrace.

May you like

""We can put it anywhere you want, Leo,"" Marcus said, his voice full and steady for the first time in years. ""This is your home. And nobody is ever going to take it away from you again.""

Leo smiled, wrapping his small arms around Marcus's neck as the morning sunlight bathed the grand marble floor in pure, unblemished gold."
