Chapter 11 - The Boardroom Confrontation

The 45th floor of the Sterling International Tower in downtown Boston gleamed with polished glass, chrome, and calculated ambition. The quarterly board meeting was in full session, with twelve executive directors seated around a forty-foot frosted glass table. Marcus Sterling stood at the head of the room, presenting a slide detailing the proposed liquidation of maritime assets.

The heavy frosted-glass doors burst open with a resounding crack.

Julian strode in, flanked not by bodyguards, but by two special investigators from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Financial and Healthcare Crimes Division. Behind them walked Dr. Hayes, carrying a sealed evidence briefcase.

Marcus stopped mid-sentence, his smile tightening into a thin, venomous line. "Julian. This is a closed board session. You are on medical leave. Leave the premises immediately."

Julian did not stop until he reached the opposite end of the long conference table. He slammed the laboratory report down onto the glass, the sound echoing like a gunshot.

"Section twelve of the corporate charter," Julian announced in a voice that commanded the entire room, "mandates the immediate termination of any director who engages in acts of moral turpitude or actions directly detrimental to the primary beneficiaries of the Sterling Estate Trust."

Marcus let out a dry laugh. "Have you completely lost your mind? What gibberish are you talking about?"

"Noah is the primary beneficiary of the founding trust," Julian said, his eyes drilling into Marcus’s face. "Yesterday, your subsidiary pharmacy deliberately altered the formulation of my infant son’s heart medication. The investigators behind me have already executed a search warrant on your private communications server. They have the emails between your office and the head pharmacist."

Marcus’s face drained of color. Several board members gasped, leaning back from the table as if Marcus had suddenly caught fire.

"That's a lie! A fabricated accusation!" Marcus stammered, stepping away from the podium.

"The Attorney General didn't think it was a lie when they signed the arrest warrants twenty minutes ago," Julian whispered coldly. "You wanted to prove I was unfit to protect my family, Marcus. But you forgot that a father fighting for his child doesn't negotiate."

Two uniformed state troopers entered through the side doors. Within minutes, Marcus Sterling was handcuffed and escorted out of the building he had sought to rule, his protests swallowed by the indifferent hum of the skyscraper’s elevators.
