Chapter 15 - The Dance Floor Revisited

Two months later, the summer afternoon sun bathed the community park in warm, golden light. The grass was freshly mowed, and the gentle melody of an acoustic guitar drifted from a nearby gazebo.

The headlines had dominated the country for weeks—indictments, arrests, and the complete dismantling of Julian Vance’s criminal syndicate. But in this quiet corner of the world, none of that mattered.

Elena sat on a park bench beneath an oak tree, laughing as Marcus tried awkwardly to feed popcorn to a flock of indifferent pigeons.

In the center of the wooden gazebo, Clara stood in a brand-new pastel dress, her blonde pigtails bouncing as she hopped from one foot to the other. Liam, dressed in a comfortable linen shirt and clean slacks, stood opposite her, bowing deeply with dramatic elegance.

""May I have this dance, Miss Vance?"" Liam asked with a broad, genuine smile.

Clara giggled, curtsying clumsily while holding the hem of her skirt. ""Only if you don't do that silly jump again, Daddy!""

Liam chuckled, sweeping her up into his arms and spinning her gently across the polished wooden planks. Her laughter rose into the blue sky, pure and unbroken. For the first time in over a year, Liam felt the heavy weight lift completely from his shoulders.

He set Clara down, letting her spin on her tiny shoes, watching her radiant smile under the dappled sunlight.

As he stepped back to admire her, Clara suddenly stopped, her eyes widening as she pointed toward the treeline behind him.

""Daddy..."" Clara whispered, her smile fading into wonder. ""Look who’s standing by the flowers.""

Liam turned around slowly, his heart stopping as a familiar shadow stepped out from the summer trees."
