Chapter 12 - BLUEPRINTS OF DECEIT

The screen did not display Clara’s face; it displayed the cold, indisputable machinery of truth.
First appeared the lab analysis signed by the Chief of Toxicology at St. Jude's, detailing the precise chemical composition found on the bottle and Clara's skin. Directly beside it appeared private surveillance footage retrieved via court subpoena: Victoria Vance entering a commercial chemical supply depot in the industrial district forty-eight hours before the incident, purchasing three hundred milliliters of industrial acid under a forged shell company license.
The ballroom erupted into chaos. Victoria swayed on her high heels, clutching the edge of the display table to keep from collapsing.
"Shut it down!" Richard roared, lunging toward the audio-visual booth. "I'll sue every single person in this room! Julian Carrington, this is a smear campaign engineered by a jealous, failed child!"
"Be quiet, Richard," Julian Carrington said, his voice dropping into cold, lethal disgust as he stepped away from Victoria as if she were carrying the plague. "Let her speak."
Clara touched the control pad. The screen transitioned from the toxicology files to the detailed structural schematics of the Carrington Harbor Project.
"My face was destroyed to prevent me from stopping this," Clara announced, pointing to the foundation calculations. "For three years, I have acted as the ghost designer for Vance Global. My sister Victoria cannot calculate simple load parameters. In her rush to finalize this contract and pocket an unearned eight-million-dollar developer fee, she replaced the high-tensile titanium alloys I specified with substandard hollow carbon beams."
A red digital simulation appeared on the screen, running the wind-shear model against a simulated Category 2 storm. The auditorium watched in petrified silence as the digital pavilion swayed, buckled, and collapsed into the ocean within forty-five seconds of gale-force pressure.
"Had this pavilion been built to Victoria Vance’s specifications," Clara said, turning her burning gaze directly onto her trembling sister, "the central observation dome would have collapsed into the harbor within twelve months of opening, killing hundreds of innocent citizens. My father knew this. He intended to pay off the safety inspectors, exactly as he did ten years ago on the Harbor Pier project."
"You monstrous ungrateful bitch!" Victoria suddenly screamed, completely breaking her polished façade. Her manicured hands clawed at the air as she charged toward Clara on the stage. "You ruined my life! Everything was supposed to be mine! You were always just the ugly, invisible freak in the basement!"

Before Victoria could reach the podium, two municipal police officers caught her by the arms, forcing her wrists behind her back.
"Victoria Vance," the lead detective announced into the live microphone, "you are under arrest for attempted aggravated assault with a corrosive substance, reckless endangerment, and commercial fraud."
