Chapter 14 - The Final Confrontation

""You look ridiculous in that dress, Rebecca,"" Julian said, standing up and stepping between the gun barrel and Lily.

Rebecca smiled bitterly, her eyes hollow and venomous. ""I spent six months listening to you mourn that pathetic woman, Julian. Playing the supportive girlfriend, attending charity balls, pretending to care about your stupid company. All to get that signature.""

""You killed Elena,"" Julian stated, keeping his voice dead calm. ""You poisoned her IV drip.""

""My father built an empire, Julian. Elena was an ungrateful researcher who thought her middle-class morality was worth billions of dollars in pharmaceutical investments. She had to be handled."" Rebecca lowered the gun slightly, pointing it toward Lily. ""Give me the flash drive and the key, Julian. Sign the custody waiver I brought. Walk away, and I won't have to bury you next to her.""

""You won't shoot,"" Julian countered, taking a slow step toward her. ""You need this clean. A murder charge in a public cemetery ruins everything.""

""You’re an escaped fugitive who violently kidnapped a minor and attacked private security,"" Rebecca sneered, her finger tightening on the trigger. ""A tragic family murder-suicide handles everything quite neatly. Vance has already bought the coroner.""

Lily stepped out from behind Julian’s legs, looking directly at Rebecca without flinching. ""Mommy said you were ugly inside. She was right.""

Rebecca’s face contorted in fury. ""Shut up, you little—""

A blinding spotlight suddenly ripped through the trees, illuminating Rebecca like an actress on a stage. Sirens wailed in deafening chorus from the perimeter streets, and heavy footsteps echoed across the cemetery path.

""Drop the weapon! Federal Bureau of Investigation! Drop the weapon now!""
