Chapter 15 - The Dawn of Truth

Rebecca spun around in panic, the gun shaking in her trembling hand. From behind the mausoleums emerged a dozen federal tactical agents in body armor, assault rifles trained on her chest.
Beside the lead agent walked Marcus and Claire, holding an open laptop broadcasting an active federal warrant.
""It’s over, Rebecca,"" Marcus shouted over the megaphone. ""Claire downloaded your encrypted emails from the clinic server an hour ago. The Department of Justice took jurisdiction over Judge Montgomery’s court thirty minutes ago. Vance has already rolled on you to save himself.""
Rebecca looked from the agents to Julian, realization dawning that her empire of deceit had completely collapsed. The gun slipped from her limp fingers, clattering against the cold cobblestones. Two agents swarmed forward, tackling her to the ground and fastening zip-ties around her wrists, crushing her white silk gown into the muddy earth.
Julian fell to his knees, pulling Lily into a fierce, suffocating embrace. He buried his face in her hair, weeping openly as the nightmare finally broke.
""We did it, Lily bug,"" Julian sobbed, his voice cracking with relief. ""We did it.""
Lily patted his shoulder softly, mirroring the exact gesture Elena used to make. ""Mommy is happy now, Daddy.""
Ten minutes later, as emergency lights painted the chapel walls in rhythmic red and blue, the lead federal agent approached Julian with a warm, respectful nod.
""Mr. Sterling? All charges against you are dismissed. Miss Chen’s evidence confirms the entire conspiracy. You and your daughter are safe.""

Julian stood up, holding Lily securely in his arms. The morning sun was just beginning to break over the eastern horizon, piercing through the autumn mist and bathing the memorial garden in golden warmth.
He looked back at the broken-winged angel one last time, whispering a silent vow of eternal love, before turning away toward a future that belonged only to them."
