Chapter 11 - The Fall of the House of Ward

The federal agents didn't waste a second. While reporters scrambled to document every second of the spectacle, two officers walked straight toward Clara Ward.

""Clara Ward, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, corporate espionage, and treason,"" the lead agent announced, snapping heavy steel cuffs around her manicured wrists.

""Do you know who my father is?!"" Clara shrieked, kicking and thrashing as she was dragged away from the table. ""My father is a United States Senator! You will all lose your badges for this! Julian, do something!""

Julian was frozen, trembling so hard he couldn't keep his balance. He sank into his executive leather chair, staring at Elena as if she were a ghost risen from the grave.

""Elena... please,"" Julian whimpered, his voice cracking on live television. ""We were married. We shared a life! I took care of you when you had no one!""

""You kept me in a cage so I wouldn't discover what you stole from my family,"" Elena said, looking down at him with utter disgust. ""You left me on the cold stone steps like discarded trash because you thought I was worthless.""

She stepped closer, leaning down so only Julian could hear her final words.

""Alexander was right. A weak man leaves a woman in the cold. A dead man pays for it.""

She turned her back on him, walking toward Alexander, who stood waiting by the entrance with quiet pride in his dark eyes.

""Clear the room,"" Alexander commanded his private security. The press scrambled out, leaving Julian slumped over the table, weeping openly as federal marshals approached him with arrest warrants for financial fraud and accessory to attempted homicide.

Out in the private executive corridor, Elena took a long, deep breath. The adrenaline that had carried her through the boardroom began to fade, leaving her knees slightly wobbly.

Alexander reached out, catching her elbow gently before she could stumble.

""You did extraordinary, Elena,"" he said softly.

Elena looked up at him, searching his stoic, aristocratic face. ""Is it over? Is Ward truly done?""

Alexander’s expression darkened slightly, the warmth vanishing behind an ominous shadow.

""Julian and Clara are done,"" Alexander said, pulling out a vibrating phone from his jacket. ""But Senator Ward just escaped his estate by private helicopter. And he left a voice message on my private line.""

Alexander hit play, holding the speaker between them.

The voice of Senator Ward was ragged, insane with fury: ""You think you won, Alexander? Look outside your precious tower.""
