Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Horizon

A year after her departure from the Sterling estate, Clara walked down to the rocky shore as evening descended.
The sun was sinking into the Atlantic, painting the sky in breathtaking gradients of lavender, amber, and deep oceanic blue. The waves rolled in steadily, washing over the pebbles with a peaceful hiss.
She remembered the young woman in the cream wrap dress who had stood at the top of that marble staircase, clutching her suitcases, listening to Julian’s desperate insistence that their story wasn't finished. How small that world seemed now. How trivial its judgments, how hollow its riches.
True wealth, Clara realized, was not the balance of a bank account or the pedigree of a surname. It was the ability to look into the mirror and recognize the soul staring back. It was the privilege of sleeping without fear, speaking without permission, and loving without conditions.
She reached into her pocket, felt the smooth surface of her mother’s gold locket, and smiled.
From the porch of Willow Cottage behind her, warm yellow light spilled across the blooming garden path. Thomas was standing by the workshop door, waving for her to come inside for dinner.

"Coming," she whispered into the twilight.
Clara turned away from the vast ocean, stepping lightly across the sand toward the welcoming warmth of the cottage. Her steps were sure, her heart was light, and her horizon was endless. She was no longer running from the past; she was joyfully, unequivocally home.
