Chapter 10 - The Healing CutWith a swift, practiced motion, Dr. Thorne drained the purulent fluid from the abscess, instantly relieving the intense pressure on the horse’s spinal nerves. Goliath let out a deep, guttural breath, his heavy head resting against Rachel’s shoulder as the local anesthetic took full effect.

"Look at that, Rachel," Dr. Thorne instructed, gesturing with the forceps. "What do you see?"

Rachel leaned in, observing the exposed tissue beneath the irrigation stream. "Healthy granulation beneath the necrotic cap. The muscle hasn't atrophied completely. With debridement and systemic antibiotics, the nerve pathways will regenerate."

"Precisely," the Dean nodded, glancing at her with renewed respect. "Many would have looked at Goliath tonight and seen only an unruly beast destined for the renderer. You looked at him and diagnosed the root of his rage. That is the difference between a technician and a true healer."

"He just needed someone to listen instead of shouting," Rachel replied softly, cleaning the drainage line with sterile gauze.
