Chapter 15 - The Open GateGoliath galloped across the broad green expanse, his hooves drumming a thunderous, joyous rhythm against the earth. His mane, completely free of clips and braids, streamed back wildly in the wind. There was no hitch in his stride, no hesitation in his neck, no memory of iron bars or cruelty to hold him back.

He reached the crest of the hill, turned toward the morning sun, and let out a ringing whinny that carried across the entire valley.

Rachel stood by the open gate, her hand resting on the smooth wood.

She remembered the terrified girl on her knees in the red light, staring down what she believed was a monster. She had learned that the fiercest aggression is often nothing more than a desperate plea for relief from unbearable pain—in horses, and in people.

Chloe walked over, slipping her arm through Rachel’s. Together, they watched the stallion run freely into the sunlit meadow.
