Chapter 15 - Beyond the Tide

The rain fell in sheets, washing the soot and blood from Elena’s skin as they stood on the narrow precipice of the balcony. Behind them, Sterling Manor was a raging furnace, its glass facades exploding outward into the dark sky like fireworks.
Far below in the churning waters of the cove, a patrol vessel’s searchlights swept the rocks.
""Coast Guard,"" Jonathan breathed, shielding Leo with his soaked tactical jacket. ""Marcus came through. He tipped off the federal maritime intercept.""
Down on the rocky shore, sirens converged as dozens of emergency vehicles descended the winding cliff road. The reign of Marianne Sterling had collapsed into ashes, broadcast to every federal agency in the country.
Jonathan looked at Elena. Her face was bruised, her hands shredded, her clothes soaked in mud and blood. But she was standing tall, her arms wrapping Leo with unbreakable strength. The infant was breathing deeply, lulled by the rhythm of the falling rain.
""It's over,"" Jonathan said softly, reaching out to touch his son's hand for the first time in his life. ""The trust, the empire, the lies. Everything she built burned to the ground tonight.""
Elena looked back at the collapsing inferno of the house that had nearly become her tomb. A profound, quiet peace settled over her spirit. She had descended into the earth a victim, but she had risen as the protector of her son's future.
