Chapter 15 - The New Dynasty

Midnight arrived with the sound of distant thunder, mirroring the fateful night Catherine had knelt on the wet sidewalk. But this time, they were not defenseless.
The security alarms across the estate suddenly tripped simultaneously. The main iron gates swung open as three black tactical trucks breached the gravel driveway, their floodlights sweeping across the stone facade of the mansion. Men in unmarked gear poured out, securing the perimeter with lethal efficiency.
The heavy front doors of the estate swung open from within. Standing at the top of the grand marble staircase in the foyer was Eleanor Vance, wrapped in a dark wool trench coat, her eyes burning with triumphant fury.
""Julian!"" her voice echoed through the vast, empty halls. ""Did you really think steel bars could hold the architect of this empire? Come out! Surrender the child, sign over the voting rights, and I will let you walk away with your life!""
The lights in the foyer flickered once and flared to blinding intensity.
From the shadows of the upper gallery, Julian stepped forward. He did not hold a weapon. He held a simple wireless transmitter.
""You always were predictable, Eleanor,"" Julian said calmly, his voice echoing from the acoustic ceiling. ""You always believed that violence could repair what your arrogance destroyed.""
Behind Eleanor, the heavy front doors slammed shut with hydraulic finality. The tactical gear worn by her mercenary team suddenly dropped their weapons to the floor in unison. The lead operative pulled off his ballistic mask, revealing the scarred face of Thomas, Julian’s chief of security.
Eleanor gasped, spinning around in absolute horror. ""What is this?""
""They were never your men, Mother,"" Julian said, descending the marble stairs slowly, each step heavy with absolute judgment. ""Arthur knew your private accounts. He bought your private security contractor twelve years ago through a blind holding firm. I’ve owned them since the day I turned twenty-five.""
Eleanor backed away, her breath coming in ragged, desperate gasps as the truth crushed her last illusion of power. ""You... you trapped me.""
""You trapped yourself the moment you forgot that loyalty cannot be bought from mercenaries,"" Julian said, stopping three paces before her. ""The federal marshals are outside the perimeter. This time, you won't be sent to a municipal transport. You are going to a maximum-security penitentiary in the Midwest under military supervision. You will die alone in a concrete room.""
Two federal agents emerged from the side parlor, their badges gleaming under the chandeliers. As they placed the heavy restraints back onto Eleanor’s trembling wrists, Catherine stepped down the stairs, carrying Leo, who looked peacefully at the glittering lights above.

Eleanor looked at Catherine—the woman she had dismissed as a penniless shadow—now standing tall as the undisputed matriarch of the Vance legacy. A single, bitter tear escaped Eleanor’s eye before she was dragged out into the rain, the heavy oak doors closing behind her forever.
Julian turned to Catherine, taking her in his arms along with their son. The storm raged against the reinforced glass windows, but inside the great hall, the air was warm, safe, and still. The empire was theirs, the bloodline was secured, and the dark night was finally over."
