Chapter 9 - Extraction

Arthur turned his back on the broken man without another word. He walked to Claire, who was leaning heavily against the wall, her strength completely exhausted.
""It's over, my little bird,"" Arthur said softly, shedding his heavy wool overcoat with effortless grace and draping it around her shivering shoulders. The warmth of the coat and the familiar scent of cedar and tobacco brought a wave of relief that caused Claire’s knees to give out completely.

""Marcus,"" Arthur commanded as they walked toward the foyer, ignoring the groaning Julian on the floor. ""Secure her personal belongings from the master suite. Documents, passports, family jewelry. Leave everything else Julian purchased. We want nothing contaminated by his hands.""
""Understood, sir,"" Marcus responded, gesturing to two men who immediately moved toward the private wing.

The elevator descended rapidly. Outside, through the glass, the lights of the city blurred together into a sea of possibilities.
