Chapter 14 - Line of Defense

The lead intruder stepped into the living room, his tactical vest dark and menacing under the bright midday sunlight pouring through the windows. The biker didn't hesitate; he lunged forward with surprising agility, tackling the first intruder against the living room wall with a deafening crash that rattled the picture frames on the walls. The second tactical operative raised his weapon, pivoting sharply toward the kitchen where Mark stood shielding Sarah and young Leo. ""Mark, watch out!"" Sarah screamed, her voice piercing the air as she threw her arms around Leo to protect him from the impending crossfire. Mark moved with lightning-fast military precision, launching himself across the kitchen counter and tackling the second intruder mid-stride just as a deafening gunshot rang through the house.

The bullet shattered the overhead kitchen light, raining tiny glass shards down onto the tiled floor as the two men crashed heavily onto the linoleum in a brutal struggle for the weapon. Mark slammed his forearm against the operative's wrist, forcing the pistol upward before wrenching it free with a sharp, brutal twist of his body. With a swift, decisive strike to the man's jaw, Mark rendered the operative unconscious, the heavy body slumping limply against the kitchen cabinets. In the living room, the biker had successfully pinned the first intruder, binding his hands with heavy zip-ties pulled straight from the man's own tactical belt. Panting heavily, Mark stood up slowly, scanning the smoky kitchen while checking to ensure Sarah and Leo were still unharmed.

""Is everyone okay? Did either of you get hit?"" Mark asked urgently, rushing over to pull Sarah and the boy up from the floor, his hands shaking with residual adrenaline. Sarah nodded rapidly, tears streaming down her face as she buried her head against his chest, clutching his uniform jacket tightly. Leo stood quietly beside them, holding onto the old faded photograph with white-knuckled intensity while staring wide-eyed at the subdued intruders. ""We need to clear out right now before their backup catches up to us,"" the biker warned, walking into the kitchen while wiping a drop of blood from his weathered cheek. Mark nodded grimly, knowing that their quiet suburban life had just been permanently altered, but as he looked down at his wife and his newfound son, he knew he would burn the world down to keep them safe.
