Chapter 11 - The Enclosing Net

The rhythmic wail of sirens grew deafening as red and blue strobe lights painted the arena’s vaulted glass roof. Four police cruisers roared through the open stable gates, followed immediately by an unmarked tactical van. Tires threw gravel against the mahogany siding as officers poured into the arena, sidearms drawn and tactical flashlights cutting through the sawdust haze.
""State Police! Put your hands where we can see them!"" a voice bellowed through an amplifier.
Marcus kept his hands in plain view, his palm resting flat against Black Sovereign’s trembling neck. With a slow, deliberate movement of his thumb, he released the catch on the spiked cinch. The cruel leather strap fell away into the dirt. The massive stallion immediately lowered his head, blowing out a long, trembling breath against Marcus’s shoulder.
Across the ring, Donald struggled to his feet, cradling his broken arm. Even cornered, the billionaire's arrogance clung to him like armor.
""Officer, arrest that man!"" Donald shouted, gesturing toward Marcus. ""He assaulted my staff, trespassed on private corporate property, and attempted to steal my livestock!""
A seasoned lieutenant with silver hair and a tactical vest walked into the ring, stepping straight past Donald without breaking stride. Behind him came Sarah Evans, accompanied by two state investigators carrying the evidence gathered from the ambulance ambush: the spent flare, the dropped weapons, and the empty vial of engineered toxin.
""Save your breath, Mr. Sterling,"" the lieutenant said coldly. ""Your son Julian is at the county station right now, accompanied by a court-appointed advocate. He has spent the last forty-five minutes handing over your encrypted ledgers, the bio-lab distribution logs, and your communications with the syndicate in Lexington.""
Donald’s jaw slackened. For the first time in his life, the absolute certainty of his power vanished from his eyes. ""Julian is a minor. His testimony is inadmissible without my consent.""
""He didn't just give a statement, Donald,"" Sarah said, stepping forward with her eyes flashing fire. ""He handed us the backup drive from your private office safe. The one documenting every animal you poisoned to rig the Championship qualifiers.""

The investigators moved in, snapping heavy steel cuffs around Donald’s wrists. As they dragged him past the trailer, Marcus locked eyes with his fallen rival.
""The land stays Vance,"" Marcus said quietly. ""And you will rot behind bars.""
