Chapter 2 - The Iron Patriarch

Donald Sterling stood motionless in the entryway, cutting an imposing figure in his tailored three-piece charcoal suit. His bald head reflected the harsh fluorescent lights of the corridor, his face weathered into granite lines of calculated authority. Behind him, two silent stable hands blocked the exit to the paddocks.

""Release the boy, Marcus,"" Donald said softly. The tone carried the quiet threat of a loaded chamber. ""Family disputes are not settled in the stable aisles.""

""Your son poisoned Mia’s riding kit,"" Marcus spat, his grip tightening until Julian’s knuckles bruised against the concrete floor. ""He tried to cripple me, and he hit an eight-year-old child instead.""

Donald took two slow, measured strides forward. He didn't look at Marcus. Instead, his piercing gaze locked onto his own son. Without warning, Donald’s hand shot out. He gripped Julian by the lapels of his riding blazer, hoisted the boy clear off the floor, and slammed him down across a rolling stainless steel cart. The metal shrieked against the tile before Donald hurled Julian into the saddle racks a second time with brutal, clinical efficiency.

Julian cried out, curling into a defensive ball among the scattered pads. Donald leaned over his groaning heir, voice dropping to a gravelly rasp. ""Let me see what you've got hidden, Julian.""

With practiced dexterity, Donald tore the brass vial from Julian’s fingers and inspected the engraved seal on the cap. A subtle twitch in Donald’s jaw revealed that he recognized the mark instantly. He slipped the cylinder into his breast pocket, completely ignoring the boy's whimpers.

""This academy belongs to the Sterling Trust,"" Donald declared, turning back toward Marcus. ""Whatever poison rots in these stalls will be excised by my hand, not yours. Take your daughter to a real hospital. The grounds are locked down until morning.""

""You won't bury this, Donald,"" Marcus warned, his fists clenched as Sarah emerged from the clinic doorway, carrying Mia wrapped in a thermal blanket.

Donald adjusted his cuffs, his gaze drifting toward the darkened stalls where fifty prize horses shifted restlessly in their pens. ""I bury whatever threatens this empire, Marcus. Even things with bloodlines as proud as yours.""
