A gunshot echoed through the cavernous estate, followed by the violent shatter of plate glass. Marcus lunged forward, tackling Vivienne off balance as the bullet tore through the bookshelf behind Julian, sending splinters of wood flying into the air. "Run, Julian! Get to her!" Marcus roared, grappling with Vivienne over the weapon on the polished floor.

Julian grabbed the emergency keys and the encrypted flash drive from the desk, sprinting down the grand staircase into the stormy night without looking back. Behind him, another shot rang out, followed by an ominous silence that froze his blood. He tore open the garage, jumped into an unmarked SUV, and punched the accelerator, the tires screaming against the wet tarmac.

Clara was waiting by the curb in an old sedan, the engine idling quietly. "Elena! Get in, quickly!" Clara hissed, leaning over to push the passenger door open. Elena scrambled into the passenger seat, panting heavily as she clutched her abdomen. "Where are we going?" Elena whispered, trembling from the cold. Clara shifted the car into gear and accelerated into the rain-slicked boulevard. "Somewhere he will never find you. But there’s something you need to know about that envelope, Elena... I was the one who let them into your room."
