Chapter 15 - The Dawn of Two Worlds

A sudden deafening siren pierced the night from behind the highway crest. Blue and red emergency lights flooded the asphalt, illuminating state police cruisers barreling toward the wreckage from both sides of the corridor. Vivienne cursed under her breath, turning toward her driver, but Julian seized the opening, lunging forward to knock her arm aside.
The gunshot went wild, ricocheting off the pavement into the night. Within seconds, officers swarmed the clearing, weapons drawn, shouting commands that tore the storm apart. Vivienne was forced onto the wet concrete, her gun kicked away as handcuffs clicked around her wrists. Julian collapsed to his knees, his energy spent, his gaze never leaving the back window of the SUV.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, tending to Clara’s crushed vehicle while another team opened the rear door where Elena sat. Julian dragged himself to his feet, walking slowly toward the ambulance cot where they were transferring Elena. He didn't dare reach out to touch her. He stood back, soaking wet, bleeding, and entirely stripped of his pride.
Elena looked at him from beneath the emergency blanket. The anger in her eyes had cooled into something far more profound—an ocean of unresolved grief and survival. "You saved us," she whispered softly, her hand resting over the twins. Julian swallowed the lump in his throat, shaking his head. "I almost destroyed you. I won't contest the divorce, Elena. Everything I have left belongs to you and the children." She closed her eyes as the paramedics closed the doors, leaving Julian standing alone under the rising grey dawn.
