Chapter 12 - The Fall of the Senator

Senator Sterling raised his weapon, aiming directly at the back of Julian’s head as Julian struggled to pin Viktor down.

"Die, Vance!" Sterling yelled.

Before Sterling could pull the trigger, Clara threw herself at the Senator's legs, knocking his balance off. The bullet slammed harmlessly into the ceiling plaster. Sterling kicked her savagely in the ribs, sending her sprawling across the floor, gasping for air.

Sterling raised the gun again to execute Clara. "Worthless rat—"

A deafening gunshot silenced the room.

Senator Sterling gasped, looking down at his chest. A blooming crimson rose spread across his white dress shirt. Behind him stood Marcus, smoke drifting from the barrel of his sidearm, accompanied by a squad of Vance’s elite tactical operators.

Sterling collapsed to his knees, then crashed face-first onto the marble floor, motionless.

Across the room, Julian broke Viktor’s grip with a vicious headbutt. As Viktor groaned in agony, Julian pinned his neck against the floor with his boot, his face spattered with blood, his chest heaving with fury.

"It's over, Viktor," Julian panted, his voice deadly and low.

Viktor spat blood onto Julian’s boot, laughing hysterically. "You think you won? You think killing Sterling saves you? Look at the city, Julian! Look outside!"

Julian glanced toward the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the financial district. Down below, black military-grade transport trucks with darkened windows were surrounding the perimeter of the building. Men in unmarked tactical gear were pouring out, cutting through the police tape with heavy machinery.

"The Bratva strike force," Viktor wheezed with a bloody grin. "They don't care about the files. They came to raze this entire tower to the ground with everyone inside."
