Chapter 13 - The Reckoning of Sirens

Around the bend of Pier 44, three federal coast guard cutters sliced through the dark water, their massive bow cannons trained directly on the Cynthia II. Simultaneously, half a dozen black tactical vans screeched through the pier's main gates, federal tactical units pouring out with assault rifles drawn and shields locked.
""Federal agents! Drop your weapons! Stand down!"" the bullhorn roared across the water, echoing off the rusted metal of the cranes.
Catherine froze on the gangway, the umbrella slipping from her attendant's hand and tumbling into the harbor. Her face was completely drained of color.
From the lead federal vehicle stepped Marcus Miller. His arm was in a sling, his clothes scorched and covered in soot from the garage explosion, but his eyes were sharp. Beside him walked Agent Hayes of the Department of Justice Organized Crime Task Force.
""It's over, Catherine,"" Marcus shouted through the rain. ""Every server in your private estate was mirrored two hours ago. The transfer logs, the offshore syndicate accounts, the assassination contracts—we have it all.""
""You... you traitor!"" Catherine screamed, her regal facade crumbling into hysterical rage. ""I made you! You were nothing before the Vance family!""
""I was loyal to Arthur Vance,"" Marcus replied coldly. ""A man who actually had an ounce of honor. You killed your husband, Catherine. And your boy Lucas left a paper trail a mile wide in Marseilles.""
Federal agents swarmed the gangway, disarming Catherine’s private mercenaries without firing a single shot. Two agents forced Lucas to the ground, pulling his arms behind his back and clicking heavy steel cuffs around his wrists. Lucas glared at Julian with pure, unadulterated venom, but Julian didn't even look back at him.
Julian turned away from his broken family and ran toward the base of the crane.
""Leo! Maya!"" Julian called out, dropping to his knees in the mud.
From the narrow opening beneath the iron counterweight, two small faces emerged. Leo had his arms wrapped tightly around his little sister, shielding her from the rain. When he saw Julian, the fierce, stoic expression on the boy's face finally cracked.
Leo broke into tears, crawling out of the hole and hurling himself into Julian's arms. Julian pulled both children into his chest, burying his face in their wet hair, weeping openly for the first time in his adult life.
Elena knelt beside them, wrapping her arms around the three of them, completing the circle.
""You're safe,"" Julian whispered against Leo's temple, his voice breaking. ""You're safe now. I have you.""
Behind them, Agent Hayes approached, his expression grim but respectful. ""Julian Vance?""
Julian looked up, keeping his arms tightly wrapped around his children. ""Agent.""
""We need you to come in and give a statement,"" Hayes said gently. ""Your mother and brother are facing life without parole. But right now... the medics are waiting in the second van. Let's get these children warm.""
May you like
Julian stood up, lifting Maya into his arms while Elena held Leo's hand. As they walked toward the flashing lights of the ambulance, Julian looked back one last time at the Cynthia II.
Catherine was being escorted down the gangway in handcuffs. When she caught Julian’s eye, she opened her mouth to speak, but Julian simply turned his back on her, walking forward into the light.
