Clara’s mind raced back to the letter she had received in prison—the blueprint and the medical record that had sparked her defiance at the chapel.

"The letter..." Clara breathed. "The letter sent to my cell... it was from you."

Arthur nodded slowly. "I couldn't risk reaching out directly. Eleanor's lawyers control the prison board; if they knew I was alive and contacting you, you would have been transferred or worse. So I smuggled the documents through an old friend—a prison chaplain named Father Thomas."

Sheriff Lawson, who had been listening quietly near the doorway, stepped forward. "Arthur, if what you're saying is true, Richard and Eleanor haven't just committed fraud. They're guilty of attempted murder, kidnapping, framed prosecution, and obstruction of justice on a federal level."

"They have judges in their pocket, Lawson," Arthur warned bitterly. "They have money, influence, and decades of political favors. The moment Richard realizes I'm in police custody, he will pull every string he has to shut this down."

As if on cue, the lights in the cabin suddenly flickered and went out, plunging the room into total darkness. Outside, the sound of approaching heavy vehicles cut through the steady patter of rain.
