Chapter 13 - Redefining Strength

The following month, Christian announced the creation of the Vance-Miller Foundation for Family Protection and Restoration. It was funded with an initial endowment of fifty million dollars, dedicated to providing safe housing, legal defense, and psychological rehabilitation for domestic abuse victims and their children.
Clara was appointed to the board of directors, working alongside social workers, jurists, and advocates to ensure that no woman or child slipped through the bureaucratic cracks the way she nearly had.
At the foundation’s inaugural gala at the New York Public Library, Christian stood on the grand stage before hundreds of philanthropists, civic leaders, and journalists.
"For years, people in this city associated strength with conquest," Christian spoke into the microphone, his voice carrying effortlessly through the marble rotunda. "They believed that the size of an empire is measured by what you can take, what you can control, and who you can crush beneath your feet."
He paused, looking down at the front row where Clara sat, radiant in an emerald silk gown, smiling up at him beside Leo.

"I learned recently that true strength is not the power to dominate. True strength is the willingness to stand between a storm and those who cannot protect themselves. It is the courage to open your doors, to dismantle your own armor, and to build a sanctuary where healing can take root."
The applause that followed was deafening, but Christian’s focus remained locked on Clara. When he walked off the stage, he didn't stop for the flashbulbs or the handshakes of politicians; he walked straight to her, took her hand, and kissed her knuckles in front of the entire world.
