Chapter 9 - The Boardroom Guillotine

At 9:00 AM the following morning, the 40th floor of the Manhattan Port Authority was packed with city commissioners, financial analysts, and press correspondents. The bidding for the historic Red Hook maritime logistics lease was about to conclude.

Jonathan Sterling sat at the head of the mahogany conference table, smirking, surrounded by an army of slick corporate attorneys. He wore a pinstriped navy suit with a red silk handkerchief, exuding absolute confidence.

"Mr. Vance’s team seems to be running late," Sterling noted dryly to the commissioner. "Perhaps the logistics titan has realized that certain ports are simply out of his depth."

The double doors swung open.

Christian entered alone, radiating an icy, overwhelming presence. Behind him walked not his corporate legal team, but two senior agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Deputy Attorney General for the Southern District of New York.

The room went completely silent.

"You're late, Christian," Sterling said, though a flicker of unease crossed his eyes.

"I had to make a detour through your shell company filings in the Cayman Islands," Christian said calmly, taking a seat at the opposite end of the table. He gestured slightly.

One of the federal agents laid an official warrant on the table directly in front of Sterling.

"Jonathan Sterling," the agent announced, "you are being placed under arrest for interstate wire fraud, racketeering, and hiring contract agents for domestic arson and corporate intimidation."

Sterling's face turned crimson, then paper-white. "This is absurd! You don't have proof of any of this nonsense!"

"The three men you sent to my estate last night are currently talking to federal investigators in lower Manhattan," Christian said, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper that resonated through the room. "And Marcus Miller handed over the encrypted hard drives containing your offshore payroll twenty minutes after his arrest. He traded your head to save his own miserable skin."

Sterling lunged forward, but the agents pinned his arms behind his back, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists. Cameras flashed blindingly as press reporters rushed the glass doors.

As Sterling was dragged past Christian, he hissed, "You ruined me over a common maid?!"

Christian leaned in, his gaze burning right through the ruined mogul. "I didn't ruin you over an employee, Jonathan. I ruined you because you believed power gives you the right to break the weak. You forgot that some of us exist solely to break monsters like you."
