The wind whipped wildly through their hair as the motorboat tore across the dark, choppy waters of the bay, leaving a churning white wake behind them. Ryan slumped against the gunwale, clutching his bleeding shoulder, his police badge glinting faintly under the moonlight. Claire sat huddled in the corner of the boat, gently rocking the newborn who had finally fallen back into a deep, exhausted sleep. Ethan stood at the helm, his knuckles white as he steered the vessel toward an unmapped cove on the far side of the peninsula. ""We're safe from the immediate pursuit, but they have satellite tracking on that medical monitor,"" Ethan said grimly, not looking back. Claire looked down at the device, her expression darkening. ""We have to ditch the monitor, Ethan. It's a homing beacon. That's how they tracked us to the estate in the first place."" Ethan gritted his teeth, knowing she was right, but without the monitor, he had no way of regulating his son's unstable biology.
