Chapter 15 - The Dawn of A New Name

Marcus’s smug expression shattered into pure panic. ""Kill them both! Now!""
Before the guards could level their weapons, the massive plate-glass windows behind Marcus exploded inward in a shower of diamond-hard glass shards. Stun grenades detonated with deafening flashes of light and thunderous concussive blasts.
Federal tactical agents in full assault gear descended from cables attached to the roof, their laser sights painting the room in crisscrossing crimson lines.
""Federal agents! Drop your weapons! Drop them now!""
The two guards immediately threw their rifles onto the marble floor and hit the ground, hands behind their heads. Marcus, blinded and disoriented by the flashbang, lunged desperately toward Julian, raising his sidearm in a final act of spite.
Elena didn't think. She sprinted across the slick marble, throwing her entire body weight into Marcus’s arm. The gun discharged wildly, the bullet shattering a crystal vase on the desk. Marcus slammed Elena hard against the mahogany table, raising the pistol to bring the heavy butt down across her skull.
A roar of primal fury tore through the room. Julian, snapping the wooden armrest of his chair through sheer adrenaline, lunged forward with the splintered timber still bound to his wrist, slamming his body into his brother with bone-crushing force.
Both men crashed to the floor. Julian pinned Marcus beneath his knees, his hands locked around his brother's throat until tactical agents swarmed them, pulling Julian off and pinning Marcus’s face firmly against the bloody marble.
""Marcus Vance, you are under arrest for conspiracy, racketeering, and corporate homicide,"" an agent barked, wrenching Marcus’s arms into steel zip-ties.
Marcus glared up at Elena, his face twisted in venomous hatred, but Elena didn't even glance down at him. She collapsed onto her knees beside Julian, wrapping her arms around his trembling, bloodied shoulders.
""It's over,"" she sobbed, burying her face into the crook of his neck. ""Julian... it's finally over.""
Julian clutched her tightly with his unbroken arm, his tears soaking into her hair. ""Where is he? Where is Leo?""
""He's safe. He's waiting for us.""
Two days later, the morning sun rose warm and golden over the capital harbor.
Julian stood on the wooden deck of a private ferry, wearing a simple wool sweater over his bandages. Elena stood beside him, leaning against the rail, looking out at the sparkling blue waters of the bay. In her arms, Leo laughed at the seagulls circling overhead, reaching out his chubby hands toward the morning sky.
Julian slipped his hand into his pocket, retrieved the small velvet box, and gently placed the emerald ring onto Elena’s left ring finger.
Elena looked down at the gleaming stone, then looked up into Julian’s eyes—eyes that were no longer shadowed by guilt, fear, or secrets.
""Where do we go now?"" she asked softly.
May you like
Julian smiled, a true, radiant smile that erased ten years of torment from his face. He wrapped his arm around her waist, drawing her and Leo close against his heart.
""Wherever we want,"" Julian whispered as the ferry engines hummed to life, carrying them toward a distant horizon where no shadows could ever reach them again."
